When both TCT and HPV test results are negative, cervical cancer usually does not occur. The occurrence of cervical cancer is closely related to persistent high-risk HPV infection. Two negative results indicate that there is currently no risk of infection or precancerous lesions. However, in rare cases, there may be sampling errors or detection window periods, which need to be combined with clinical follow-up.

The TCT examination assesses morphological abnormalities by collecting cervical exfoliated cells, while the HPV test directly screens for viral DNA. When both combined screening tests are negative, the probability of cervical cancer is extremely low. Studies show that the risk of cervical cancer in people who are negative for combined screening is less than 1% within 5 years. The routine screening interval can be extended to 3-5 years. During this period, symptoms such as abnormal vaginal bleeding still require timely review.

Under special circumstances, if cells from the lesion are not obtained during sampling, the test is in the latent period of HPV infection, or there are rare non-HPV-related cervical cancer types, false negative results may occur. Cervical atrophy in postmenopausal women may lead to insufficient sampling, and fluctuations in viral load in immunocompromised patients may also affect detection accuracy. Pathological types such as cervical adenocarcinoma are sometimes weakly associated with HPV infection.

It is recommended to maintain a regular screening cycle, and women over 30 years old should undergo joint screening every three years. Pay attention to safe sex every day to reduce the risk of HPV exposure. HPV vaccination can prevent more than 70% of cervical cancer. When symptoms such as contact bleeding and abnormal discharge occur, no matter what the screening results are, you should seek medical treatment promptly. If necessary, colposcopy biopsy should be performed to confirm the diagnosis.
