First of all, we need to give everyone a solid foundation - currently our country does not have an "elderly fitness instructor certificate" that is included in the unified professional qualification catalog. The certificates available on the market are all skill training certificates issued by industry associations and social training institutions. There is no such thing as "universal and required for all practitioners". The first thing before taking the exam is to identify the formality of the certification body, otherwise it will be easy to get into trouble.
A while ago, Aunt Zhang from our community fitness center stepped into this trap. I heard an online salesperson say that this certificate is "certified with the national prefix, and you can enter a nursing home and get a high salary after passing the exam." She spent 2,660 to apply for a guaranteed class, and got a red certificate without even taking the practical exam. As a result, when she went to the community to apply for a public welfare fitness instructor position, when the staff checked the association that issued the certificate, they couldn't even find the social organization registration, and they didn't recognize it at all, which was like wasting money.
Of course, this does not mean that all skill certificates related to senior fitness guidance are useless. If you really want to enter the industry and do this, choosing the right training organizer is much more reliable than staring at the "national-level" gimmick on the cover of the certificate. My friend Xiao Zhou, who teaches fitness courses for the elderly, took the exam last year and it was quite practical. It is a special skills training organized by the Social Sports Guidance Center of this province in conjunction with the Provincial Sports Association for the Elderly. There is no particularly high threshold for registration. As long as you are over 18 and have no exercise-related contraindications, you can apply. The first half of the training is all about targeted content, such as exercise taboos for the elderly with high blood pressure and diabetes, emergency treatment for falls and sudden panic, and Baduanjin and Health Qigong, which are suitable for the elderly. The second half of the dismantling of the human project movements is a practical assessment. You have to actually lead 10 experienced elderly people to do a 20-minute warm-up and a full set of movements. You also have to answer the emergency situation handling questions raised by the judges. Those who pass the assessment will be stamped by the Provincial Social and Sports Center. He now has a certificate of passing skills training. Now he goes to the community to give charity classes and cooperates with surrounding nursing homes to provide daily fitness guidance. Everyone recognizes this certificate. The training and assessment only cost 780, which is much more than Aunt Zhang’s copycat certificate.
Nowadays, the industry's views on this type of certificate are quite polarized. Many people feel that it is not a unified national professional qualification certificate anyway, and it is useless to take the exam. It is better to directly take the general social sports instructor (fitness category) professional skill level certificate, which has a wider scope of application.; Some veteran practitioners who have been coaching seniors for five or six years said that most of the contents of general fitness certificates are aimed at young adults, and rarely involve the management of chronic diseases in the elderly and the prevention of sports injuries in the elderly. The things learned in the specialized fitness training for the elderly are more practical. Even if the "level" of the certificate is not that high, it is much easier to use when you actually start working.
In fact, to put it bluntly, it depends on your purpose of taking the certification. If you just want to learn some knowledge to provide fitness guidance for your parents, there is no need to take the certification. Just find a reliable paid course to learn the core knowledge.; If you want to get a job in this industry, it is best to go to the community or elderly care institution where you intend to work and ask clearly what kind of certificates they recognize, and then apply for the exam accordingly. If you encounter someone who advertises that you are "guaranteed to pass" and "you can be affiliated and get money after passing the exam", just turn away - after all, being a fitness instructor for the elderly depends on your professional ability.
