America's first elderly The dietary guidelines were developed by researchers at Tufts University in 1999. They also revised the dietary guidelines for seniors after the U.S. federal government's general dietary guidelines were revised.

The new dietary guidelines for the elderly emphasize the importance of certain nutrients for the elderly. For example, the new guidelines remind the elderly that they may need to increase calcium, vitamin D and B12 to supplement the deficiencies obtained from food.

The new guidance states that for older adults, who are eating less, it becomes more important to choose nutrient-dense options such as fruits, vegetables, low-fat milk and high-fiber whole grains. Frozen vegetables and canned fruits may be good alternatives to fresh fruits and vegetables.

Scientific researcher Lichtenstein believes: “This type of food is easier to prepare and has a longer shelf life, which can minimize waste. ”
