There is currently no absolutely unified conclusion on this issue. The cognitive differences between folk customs and modern professional fields are not small. The "bad feng shui that easily attracts respiratory diseases" that is often said among the people is essentially environmental defects in living and working spaces that do not meet livable standards, and there are no mysterious supernatural factors.
Speaking of which, I came across a typical example a while ago. A reader came to me and said that a family of three suffered from allergic asthma repeatedly for almost half a year. They went to a local folklore master to find out that the missing corner in the southwest of their home was causing "Qi evil" and they had to put up obsidian ornaments to resolve it. However, after two months of displaying, the symptoms were not at all mild, but became more severe after autumn. I followed him to look around his house and discovered that the so-called missing corner in the southwest happened to be where the outdoor unit of his air conditioner was installed. Next to the outdoor unit was the smoke well of the entire building. His house had windows open all year round for ventilation, and the fumes and hot air blown out by the outdoor unit mixed with dust filled the house. There were also several plush dolls with tags not removed in the bedroom, and old books were piled on the floor at the foot of the bed, all of which were dust-heavy areas. Later, he was asked to clear the debris around the window, replace it with filtered fresh air, and put all the plush toys into a sealed box. Within three weeks, he said that the child's asthma had not recurred.
Nowadays, many folk masters will classify the layout of "the entrance to the toilet, the kitchen directly to the bedroom, and the ceiling is too low" as bad feng shui that can easily cause respiratory problems. In fact, it can be explained from another angle: if the entrance to the house faces the toilet, the moisture and odor from the toilet will not be used. Take a detour and go directly to the public activity area. If the kitchen is not equipped with a check valve or a sliding door partition, the cooking fumes will float directly to the bedroom. Think about it, being smoked by these irritating gases every day will naturally reduce the resistance of the respiratory mucosa. This is not called committing a crime, it is called inhaling pollution sources every day. Some people say that you should not put too many large broad-leaved green plants in the bedroom. This is in line with the advice of respiratory doctors. Large green plants will release carbon dioxide at night and easily accumulate dust on their leaves, which indeed can easily induce allergies.
Of course, there are also many folklore sayings that cannot be scientifically supported at present, such as "if you live westward, you are more likely to suffer from respiratory diseases" and "having too many metal objects at home will damage your lungs." Most of them are based on the Five Elements. Unless there happens to be fixed sources of pollution such as factories or barbecue restaurants in the due west direction, they have basically no reference value, and there is no need to scare yourself with such statements. To be honest, whether you believe in Feng Shui or not, if you want to reduce the risk of respiratory diseases in your home, there are only a few key things: ensure smooth ventilation, don’t pile up debris that easily collects dust everywhere, and stay away from fixed sources of odor and oil fume pollution. No matter how many Feng Shui ornaments you buy, it will be more effective.
