How to treat endometrial cancer

Endometrial cancer can be treated through surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, hormone therapy, targeted therapy, etc. Endometrial cancer may be related to factors such as high estrogen levels, obesity, diabetes, high blood pressure, genetics, etc. It usually presents with symptoms such as abnormal vaginal bleeding, lower abdominal pain, and vaginal discharge.

1. Surgical treatment

Surgical treatment is the main treatment for endometrial cancer and is suitable for early-stage patients. Common surgical procedures include total hysterectomy, bilateral adnexectomy, pelvic lymph node dissection, etc. Surgery can completely remove the disease and reduce the probability of recurrence. Regular follow-up examinations are required after surgery to monitor tumor marker levels.

2. Radiotherapy

Radiation therapy is suitable for postoperative adjuvant treatment or for patients who cannot undergo surgery. Cancer cells are killed by high-energy rays, which are divided into two types: external irradiation and internal irradiation. Radiotherapy may cause side effects such as radiation enteritis and cystitis, and nutritional support treatment is required.

3. Chemotherapy

Chemotherapy is mostly used for advanced or relapsed patients. Commonly used drugs include paclitaxel injection, cisplatin injection, doxorubicin liposome injection, etc. Chemotherapy drugs kill cancer cells throughout the body through blood circulation, but can cause adverse reactions such as nausea, vomiting, and hair loss.

4. Hormone treatment

Hormone therapy is indicated for patients with hormone receptor-positive endometrial cancer. Commonly used drugs include medroxyprogesterone acetate tablets, tamoxifen tablets, etc. These drugs inhibit tumor growth by regulating hormone levels in the body and require long-term use and monitoring of liver function.

5. Targeted therapy

Targeted therapy targets specific gene mutations, such as pembrolizumab injection, which is suitable for patients with high microsatellite instability. This type of drug acts precisely on tumor cells and has fewer side effects, but is more expensive and requires genetic testing to guide drug use.

Patients with endometrial cancer should maintain a balanced diet after treatment, consume an appropriate amount of high-quality protein such as fish and eggs, and eat more fresh vegetables and fruits to supplement vitamins. Avoid high-fat and high-sugar foods and keep your weight within a normal range. Light exercise such as walking can be performed in the early postoperative period, and the amount of exercise can be gradually increased. Regularly review gynecological ultrasound, tumor markers and other items to monitor changes in the condition. Maintaining an optimistic attitude and following medical advice and standardizing treatment will help improve the quality of life.
