The most practical function is to serve as the entry threshold for primary and secondary education-related positions. In public school recruitment and teacher title evaluation in most areas of the country, especially for class teachers and part-time psychological positions, holding a mental health C certificate will be a mandatory condition for application or participation. Without it, you will not even be eligible to apply. Last year, I helped organize the preliminary review materials for school recruitment at the district education bureau. For the position of head teacher in a certain elementary school, 17 candidates who entered the exam were dismissed because they did not hold a C certificate. Among them was a normal student from a 985 school. His overall score ranked third. It was a pity that he could not apply for this certificate.
In addition to this practical "stepping stone" effect, the content learned in the preparation process can actually be used in daily teaching, and it is not completely useless for exams. For example, it can be used to identify early signs of psychological abnormalities in students, communicate with emotionally agitated parents to avoid pitfalls, and even regulate your own teaching pressure. When I was teaching fifth grade, a student suddenly didn't turn in his homework for a week in a row and would stare out the window in class. Before, I might have called his parents over to scold him. I happened to learn about the early signs of depression in children when I was preparing for the exam. I talked to the child in private twice before I found out that his parents were getting divorced during that time, and he was left unattended. Later, I also used the empathy skills I learned when communicating with parents, and it didn't take much effort to bring the child back to his state of mind.
Of course, there are many people who think this certificate is useless. My colleague who teaches science passed the exam after studying the real questions for three days before the exam. He didn’t even understand the difference between the ABC certificates of mental health. What he said and learned was empty talk. If he really encounters a student with a tendency to self-harm, he still has to be referred to a full-time psychological teacher, and he can’t handle it at all. This statement is indeed correct. The C certificate itself is a universal certificate for all teachers. The requirements are not high. If you hold on to the expectation that "you can become a psychology teacher after passing the exam", you will definitely be disappointed. To put it bluntly, this certificate is like a motor vehicle driving license. It does not mean that you can become a racing driver if you get it, but if you don't have it, you will not even be qualified to legally work. When applying for a license, it never cares whether you are capable or not. It depends on whether you have the certificate first. It is more like a basic "safety cushion". It does not allow you to directly solve complex psychological problems, but it prevents you from dealing with problems blindly and doing bad things with good intentions. Nowadays, many districts require all school teachers to take the C certificate. To put it bluntly, it is to give all teachers a layer of basic psychological knowledge. It is not a bad thing for both students and teachers themselves.
