      Back scraping is a popular traditional Chinese medical therapy. So, how many methods of back scraping in traditional Chinese medicine do you know? How about letting me show you how it is done today.

      Method 1 of Traditional Chinese Medicine Back Scrapping

      Step one: For back scraping, the therapist stands behind the client, starting at the hairline at the neck. Using one hand to provide comfort while the other scrapes, the therapist applies pressure using about one-third of the length of the scraping tool. Moving towards the sides, the same technique is used, scraping in small sections down to the waist, and then using the flat part of the tool to reach the coccyx. This process is repeated ten to twenty times

      Step two: Scrape along two lines of bladder muscles, starting from the shoulder muscles. Use one hand to gently guide while scraping with the other, and continue down to the waist. Use a flat tool to scrape in circular motions along the area of “Huan Tiao.”

      Step three: Scrape along the seam of the scapula, starting with a sweeping motion along the muscles of the shoulder and neck

      Step four: For the Guatianzong acupoint, scrape from top to bottom

      Step five: Scrape the large dorsal muscles;

      Step six: Scratch along the rib cage;

      Step Seven: Scratch from the arm to the palm (starting in the middle and moving towards the sides).

      Method 2 of Traditional Chinese Medicine Back Scrapping

      Sit upright or stand with your feet apart, and then scrape the middle area of your neck using a straight-line motion. Apply light pressure and move slowly, starting from the hairline and down along the midline of the back of the neck, where the Governor Vessel runs. Repeat this process 10 to 20 times.

      If the patient is lean and has relatively few neck muscles, and the bony protrusions of the cervical vertebrae are noticeable, you can use the edges of a guasha board to apply pressure and massage the intervertebral spaces, pressing each space from top to bottom for about 10 seconds. Then scrape straight along the neck and back. 20-30 repetitions on each side. Since there are more muscles involved here, you can gradually increase the intensity of the movements, starting light and gradually getting heavier, before reducing the intensity again for the last 3-5 repetitions.

      Scrape the areas along the Bladder Meridian of Foot-Taiyang that run along both sides of the spine. Use the edge of the guasha board to scrape the area 2-4 finger widths away from the center of the spine on each side, moving from top to bottom. Repeat this process 20-30 times on each side.

      In this article, the editor introduces two techniques for back gua sha. It is important to note that sweating usually occurs after gua sha, but you should not take a shower immediately afterwards, as this may allow external pathogens to invade the body.
