Using traditional Chinese medicine to recuperate the body is the first choice for many friends nowadays, but people don’t seem to know much about the taboos of decoction of traditional Chinese medicine. Today, the editor is going to take stock of 4 types of traditional Chinese medicine that need to be wrapped and fried.

Four types of Chinese medicine should be wrapped and fried

      Light texture Chinese medicine

Some Chinese medicinal materials that are small, soft, light and do not sink in water, such as Cuscuta chinensis, Cuscuta chinensis, Kochia chinensis, Cnidum monnieri, cumin, and crane lice, etc. tend to float on the water surface when decoction and are difficult to fully decoct. Therefore, the decoction amount of effective substances is relatively reduced, and it also makes it difficult to filter the medicinal juice. Therefore, it must be wrapped in gauze when frying.

Traditional Chinese medicine with hair or impurities

The back side of loquat leaves is densely covered with brown hairs, the petiole of Shiwei is covered with stellate hairs, and the underleaf is covered with stellate scales. The silkworm excrement is often mixed with soil, broken mulberry branches and leaves, etc. If these medicinal materials are not fried, they can easily be mixed into the soup, and they can easily irritate the throat and digestive tract after taking them. For safety reasons, they should be fried.

Chinese medicine with viscous liquid quality

Traditional Chinese medicines with viscous liquids such as Baiji, Shenqu, and light tempeh are easy to stick to the pot, difficult to filter out the medicine, easy to adsorb the medicine residue and cause the loss of active ingredients, and fourthly, the mouth is sticky and uncomfortable when taking the medicine, which can easily make patients sick. In order to avoid the above disadvantages, it is better to wrap and fry.

Traditional Chinese medicines that easily cause turbidity in the liquid solution

Generally, minerals and shellfish medicinal materials should be broken into pieces and fried first to increase their solubility, such as gypsum, ocher, etc. However, these medicinal materials can easily make the soup turbid when put into the decoction, making it difficult to take, so they should be decocted.

How long can fried Chinese medicine be kept?

Traditional Chinese medicine doctors usually prescribe Chinese medicine for 4 to 7 days at a time. For patients with chronic diseases, they may prescribe for two weeks at a time. Many patients will choose to decoct all the Chinese medicine at one time in the hospital or pharmacy, and then store the decoction in the refrigerator. So, how long can decoction Chinese medicine be kept in the refrigerator?

First of all, we need to understand the packaging form of Daijian Chinese medicine decoction. At present, the most common packaging for decoction of traditional Chinese medicine is vacuum-sealed packaging. Secondly, it can also be held in containers provided by the patients themselves.

We found that various hospitals and pharmacies indicate different storage times for medicinal solutions on sealed vacuum packaging bags. There was once a study in which different prescriptions were stored under different temperature conditions. By observing the degree of deterioration of the concoction, measurement items such as odor, turbidity, mold growth, and acidity were recorded. It was found that the higher the temperature, the faster the medicinal solution will deteriorate. In seasons with higher temperatures, when the room temperature is above 25°C, the decoction should generally be stored for no more than 2 days. If refrigerated, it can generally be stored for 7 days without deterioration. In addition, the degree of deterioration of different prescriptions varies greatly even under the same conditions. If the liquid contains more ingredients such as starch, protein, and sugar, it will deteriorate faster.

In order to ensure the safety of medicine use, the best temperature for storing traditional Chinese medicine decoctions in sealed vacuum packaging is 0~5℃, and the storage time is 7~14 days, but it is best not to exceed 7 days. On the one hand, after the decoction is cooked, it is often stored at room temperature for half a day to one day before being taken home and refrigerated, which will "accelerate" the deterioration of the medicinal soup; on the other hand, if the decoction contains animal-based Chinese medicines such as whole scorpions and centipedes, or Chinese medicines with high sugar content such as Rehmannia glutinosa and Astragalus, the storage time will also be affected. If the medicine solution bag is found to be bulging or the medicine solution has changed smell, bubbles or other abnormal phenomena, it is considered spoiled and should not be taken.
