　　1. Chronic diarrhea, chronic dysentery. This product is sour and astringent, enters the large intestine meridian, can astringent the intestines, and relieves diarrhea and dysentery. It is a commonly used drug for treating chronic diarrhea and dysentery. It can be decoctioned and taken alone; or it can be ground into powder and taken as a drink; it can also be used with nutmeg, myrobalan and other medicines. This product is good at astringent intestines. If combined with Codonopsis pilosula, Astragalus membranaceus, Cimicifuga and other medicines, it can treat chronic diarrhea and dysentery caused by mid-Qi subsidence and prolapse.

　　2. Abdominal pain due to worm accumulation. This product has insecticidal effects and can treat abdominal pain caused by roundworms, pinworms, tapeworms and other parasites. It is often used with betel nut and Zhijunzi, such as pomegranate peel powder ("Shenghui Prescription").

It is often used with Angelica sinensis, Donkey-hide gelatin, and moxa leaf charcoal, such as pomegranate peel decoction ("Sanjing Prescription"). To treat blood in the stool, it can be decoctioned and taken alone; or it can be used in combination with Sanguisorba, Sophora japonica and other medicines.

　　1. Chemical composition: Pomegranate peel contains 10.4% to 21.3% tannins, and also contains pomegranate, pseudopomegranate, isopomegranate, N-methylisopomegranate peel, gallic acid, malic acid, ursolic acid, isoquercetin, resin, mannitol, sugar, etc.

　　2. Pharmacological effects: The tannins contained in pomegranate peel have astringent effects. The peel decoction has a killing effect on Staphylococcus aureus, Shigella schlei and Shigella flexneri, and Diphtheria bacilli; it has a significant inhibitory effect on Vibrio cholerae, Salmonella typhi, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Mycobacterium tuberculosis; it has an inhibitory effect on dermatophytes such as Trichophyton viride, Epidermophyton rubrum, Microsporum audunii, and Nocardia stariformis.
